I'll Wear Any Color As Long As It's Black

I just haven’t been feeling very inspired lately. Everything I own seems to have worn itself out in my eyes and money for a shopping spree is lacking — though I did recently splurge on a pair of almost-thigh highs from Zara but on first wear they proved to be so unbelievably painful that I haven’t attempted a second round (shame, too, because they seemed to fit so perfectly when originally tried on). I go to thrift stores and try to imagine myself altering any of the somewhat acceptable things I find but nothing seems worth the effort. Thankfully, I am going to NYC next weekend and will be able to go wild at Beacon’s. My wardrobe really needs the injection, that’s for sure. Despite said lack of inspiration, today while getting ready for work, I kept plopping this hat on my head and feeling like it gave me a very goth-Andie vibe, so I went with it. Worn with a sweater dress, leggings motorcycle jacket and a big tribal tapestry bag (seemed Andie-appropriate). I think you’d be hard-pressed to find any girl born in the last thirty years or so who hasn’t, at some time and in some way (however obscure or not), identified with at least one of Molly Ringwald’s famous characters from the 80s. Discounting the love of pink, Andie might be my favorite. She’s tough and serious and responsible but also a dreamer and a romantic with great taste in music. She doesn’t take any shit even though she knows how easy it would be to let herself be walked all over. And guess what? In the end, she comes out on top, all by staying true to herself. I often discuss the obvious and damaging emphasis on classism in John Hughes movies, but disregarding all that, Andie herself is a pretty worthwhile role model.
